Making Mineral Makeup with a Blender

Hi Makeup Lovers! This time we are going to make our mineral makeup with a blender!

Usually a blender is used when you make a bigger batch but we are using only a small amount of powder as this is just a demonstration. So shall we start?:)


Put all the base powder into the blending cup just like you would do with the mortar.

As you can see there is a difference in colour in the two kinds of powder in the cup. The one in the lower part of the picture is a bit yellow. That is just how the colour of titanium dioxide is. So do not worry and think your titanium dioxide has expired when you see the colour difference.

Afterwards, Add the iron oxides according to the skin colour you are creating. I am making one with a heavy yellow undertone and hence the bigger amount of yellow iron oxide. Be aware of the amount of iron oxide you use as it is a very sensitive ingredient in your makeup. A tiny bit of it can change the tone drastically so make sure you think very carefully before you add more or you risk wasting a whole batch of base powder and iron oxide.

## One good tip is that you can mix the base powder with the iron oxide in the cup by hand before you start blending it as that can further avoid streaking. ##

 

Next, Blend away!

 

 

Make sure you blend long enough to have the iron oxide completely ground or there will be streaks of uneven colours left on your face when applyiong your foundation. The total blending time would be around 4 minutes for me as I'd like to make sure everything is blended well enough. Make sure you stop your blender in between the 4 minutes to shake the cup to ensure even blending of the powder and to avoid overheating your blender.

~OK. Times up!~

 

 ## DO NOT OPEN the cup until letting it set for a few minutes after the blending otherwise you will see all your makeup dust flying everywhere~!##

 



This is how the end product is. You can see that it is very nicely blended. Now you can use a clean brush to gently brush off the powder from the side of the cup and put it in your favourite jar!

Mineral Makeup Promotion with Instagram

Everyday I am learning something new in launching my mineral makeup! In just the past few days I have tried using instagram to show the world my mineral makeup and learned the basics of it!

At first I only uploaded pictures on instagram without adding any description or comments or anything. But very quickly I realised that is not going to do any good as I am not getting any views.

Then my girlfriend taught me a few tricks which I am gonna share with you guys. It helped and my pictures are gaining audience!

1. Hashtag your pictures to a related category. 

Hash tagging your pictures relate your pictures to other ones that are already under that category. It means if you tag the correct category, your pictures will be viewed by people who have the same interests as you. For example, if I tag my pictures as #mineralmakeup, then all the people who are browsing for mineralmakeup will see my pictures and hence increase the chance of your product being noticed by interested parties. 

People who are selling on instagram can tag the following words: onlinestore, onlineshop, buy, sell, yourcountrynameonlinestore, etc. 
 

2. Hashtag your pictures to popular hashtags.

Also, you can hashtag your pictures to tags that are not related to your pictures but are extremely popular such as #justinbieber. There are millions of pictures on him and lots of girls browse through it. So if you are interested in getting the attention of a certain group of people, all you need to do is to tag what they are interested in.

Other popular tags include #new and #like and different country names such as #philippines #thailand #usa #hk #england #swedish *Surprisingly #swedish has more picstures than #sweden which is not the case for other countries such as #england and #english*


3. Like the pictures of those who are under the hashtag you are interested in and are using

For example, I would start liking the pictures of girls who are under the hashtag #mineralmakeup if I would like to promote healthly mineral makeup as they would be interested in what you have got to show. I have got some followers by using this tactic within an hour. 

You can also use this technique to expand the range of audience for your products. For example, I hash tagged my pic #vegan and a few minutes later our page gained a new supporter who is vegan. 


There are really various way of gaining supporters on Instagram and I am learning everyday! I hope these tricks I just showed are helpful for those who has just started using it! Let me know if you have your own tricks by commenting here or on facebook page on the side bar!

Making Mineral Makeup foundations in small batches

Hi guys! Due to technical reason, I was not able to post anything on my blog so I am so sorry about that! 

But as promised, I am gonna show you some of our foundation colours today !

To make a small batch, all you need is the powder ingredients and a mortar and pestle. Put all the powder you need into the container. We have more than two but this is just to show there is more than one*

Mix the powder well after you put all the base powder together. Next, add the iron oxides to add colours to your foundation. 

 

Mix away !

Make sure you mix long and hard enough to get all the iron oxide well mixed. Or else there might be streaks of colours left on your face when using it. Since the colour of the light at my house is a bit yellow, so here is a pic of the foundation colour after it is well mixed in day light. A little Tip: you should always mix your foundation under natural light to see the true colour of your foundation!

Tadaa!!!

 

This is a foundation for people with light skin colour. And here is one for people with darker skin colour :)

Making Mineral makeup with Mortar

Sorry for the late entry today guys. To relieve your distress from waiting for me for the whole day, I bring to you my precious "Holy Grail" ! 

This is the mortar I use to grind my minerals to make sure they are nicely mixed. As before I was only making it for myself, a mortar was good enough for the small portion I needed. I chose a metal one because the rock ones I came across are not smoothened on the inside. When I touch its inside, it leaves a trace of powder on my finger. You might think "oh its minerals too because it's from the rock~" But I am not about to put anything suspicious on my face:)

There are other ones that are made by wood as well. However, wood absorbs water vapour in the air and even if you try to keep it dry it still gets damp after a while. Also, manufacturers usually put a coat of chemicals on top of the wood to keep it from decaying. So it is highly possible you would be getting those chemicals in your powder while grinding with the wood mortar. That is the reason why I choose stainless steel. It is the cleanest, strongest and easiest to deal with. Just make sure you clean and dry it regularly after use and it's good!

The Iron Oxides, Magnesium Stearate and Jar Samples :D !!!

Yeah I finally got my iron oxide samples! Even though there was some sort of accident which happened to them. I also got the new sample foundation jar with some surprises too. But first we will look at the iron oxides!

I ordered 3 iron oxides which are red, yellow and brown iron oxides and one magnesium stearate. Iron oxides are the colourants of the foundation powder while magnesium stearate is used to improve the texture of the mineral makeup. It also helps make sure the makeup doesn't melt away as fast. 

So here they are!

     

 

 When I opened it though, I found it was torn inside one of the samples so the magnesium stearate was everywhere.

This chemical company has already screwed up on their samples delivery before. And this time even though they did arrived, they were all over the place. But hey~ I still got most of them in one piece!

Here is a picture of them after being cleaned. 

 Aren't they beautiful? :))) 

Next we have the new foundation sample jar. This manufacturer was nice enough to give me two extra small powder jar which would be perfect for eyeshadow and powder samples and that made my day :D

The foundation jar definitely has a better quality than the previous one and is also cheaper so I think I will order from them instead. For the smaller jars, one has a diamond shaped bottom inside which looks gorgeous while the other one has the typical design. They both have a closeable sifter though which is a Bonus!

So What do you guys think? Which smaller jar would you prefer having as your eye shadow or sampling jar, the diamond shaped one or the typical one?
